Hi everyone ! My 964 has spent 2 years and 15.000 miles with me, but it is a tiptronic and sometimes at night I start dreaming myself driving a manual ( I swear I do) !! I'm in the process of selling my tip in favour of a manual , my 964 is almost sold, and I've started looking for something "new". After searching for 964s a bit frustrated I cought myself browsing through 996... There are quiet a few 996 here in Italy that have a new engine, and the prices are very intriguing, around 20.000 euros. I figured that in the 964 price range ( that's what I can afford) I could get a car with lower maintenance costs (964 is a plague) and with a very low mileage engine in a few words a no brainer. I figured that it might be a very good deal. I'm not shure about new 3.4 engines...are these replacement engines safer than the older engines ? Are all the problems fixed in these new engines ? The car has to be a daily drive as my 964 has been in the past 2 years. I drive from 8 to 10.000 miles each year... Thanks in advance for any advice !

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

you should drive one first.... its nothing like the 964. If you like how it drives, then I would do more research.
^^ What he said. ^^ You'd almost swear they were made by different companies.
