Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I have a 3.6 996 engine complete. new in the crate from Porsche. The engine comes with a 2 year waranty from Porsche. There is a core charge over the price but, I am offering this engine at $11,101.00 plus shipping and core charge (which will be returned to the buyer if Porsche issues the core credit). p.m. me if you have an interest. Bill Rudtner

POST 2Original post

If the engine is new that is a good price for a 3.6, but if it is remanufactured, 3.6 are about $8,500 plus core at Sunset and Suncoast. The 3.4 are over $11,000.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

For my own curiosity and knowledge, after reading your response, I called Sunset Porsche. Reman price is 10,560.81 with a core charge of 2,951.00. I will reduce the price to $10,560.81. New in the crate with a two year warranty. And yes...The 3.4 cost more than the 3.6

POST 5Original post

My guess would be because it has been out of production longer and there are fewer of them remaining.

POST 6Original post

I had not checked the pricing since last fall when my engine suffered intermix. At that time the 3.6 was $8,400, 3.6 X51 was $9,600 and the 3.4 was $11,010. If the 3.6 is up to $10,560 I hate to even think what the 3.4 is now. It seems as the price of 996 rapidly falls the price of parts, especially engines is going sky high. Good luck with your sale, the are alot of owners out there in need of engines.

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

According to Porsche. The 3.4 engines are now out of any warranty claims. This allows Porsche to raise the price of the engine. Internal financial stuff. The 3.6 engines still, depending on year of manufacture, are still cover, keeping the price of the 3.6 down a bit.

If you have an '00+ (egas) 996, can't you reflash the DME and have it adapt it to a 3.6L? I heard its easy to do. You have to add vario cam but its separate.

POST 14Original post

A caller phoned me today and was given a price of 16K for a new 3.4. His left it's guts all over I40..

POST 15Original post

Quotes source post: 6586631

no issue... the variocam + is triggered by another controller. There are a couple of people who's done it here... also, an x51 track car.

POST 16Original post

That $16K for the engine (reman) is probably from a dealer that is not discounting. Sunset or Suncoast would probably save a couple of thousand. Jake, are you still in the range of $15K to rebuild with Nikkies, etc. sounds like your price is becoming more attractive all the time.

POST 17Original post

Jake... I understand you can make a 3.4 to a 3.6 essentially making it a 350 hp motor... what kind of warranty coverage do you provide?

POST 18Original post

Can someone tell me what the market is for a very good 3.6L engine? 63,000 miles, burns no oil, no oil drips, include all the accessories less the sensors and muffler. I don't think the engine has had an IMS update. Thanks,

Tough question and maybe better to start a new thread. You may get a lot of wild guesses and opinions. My guess is $6000. A used motor is a gamble for a buyer. Vehicle history and service records will no doubt be considered. What year vehicle? Who removed the motor and why? Tell us a bit more. My guess is based on a couple salvaged motors my uncle purchased for a race car.

POST 20Original post

Bill, can you look at the serial number and see if it is in fact "new" or just a reman?

Bill posted this in May of 2009...I'd be willing to bet he no longer has this engine.
