Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Just wondering how heavy or light the clutch is a stock 996 Carrera? My experiences with stick shift cars are limited to newer Ford Mustangs and mid 90's Ford Rangers.

POST 2Original post

It's hard to respond, as I find the 996 clutch to be perfect weight, not light like Japanese of heavy like American ..

POST 3Original post

I would agree with Rob that it feels perfect, but I would tell you that the first few that I drove the pedal felt a bit heavy. It had been awhile since I had driven a manual, so I didn't have an instant comparison to judge it against, but I've had mine for about a year and think the pedal pressure feels great. DS

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Ok cool, thanks guys. That's what I would have guessed.

POST 5Original post

I went back & forth between my 1994 5.0 & several 996's daily for awhile. The 996 is slightly heavier, more so as it wears, & the leverage is worse from the lower seat angle. The 996 shifter is much better as bad as it is.

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Are there any popular aftermarket shifters for the 996? I'm pretty new to the Porsche community, so I have no idea what kind of aftermarket stuff is popular. Being a Mustang enthusiast I know the Hurst short throw shifters are a really popular mod for those cars. Anything like that for the 996 or is the stock shifter already pretty good?

POST 7Original post

The 997 GT3 shifter work great in the 996 cars and have meetal bushing. Much firmer feel especfially their shorter throw shifter.... Did you buy that 02'car?

No, I didn't. It has 108K miles and it's not a stick shift, so I'm gonna pass on it. It was in good shape though. Surprising not to see any rust on a car that old, even being in SoCal it's entire life.
