like a fisherman, im just as undecided in whether to keep or sell my car. here's the stats: 1999 C2 (one of the rare few with amber lights ) about 70k miles on it, about to run out of the extended warranty. the car sees occasional track days, and the bumpers/paint have taken abuse accordingly. every month or so i probably post something on rennlist seeking advice on my car because i havnt been able to reach a conclusive decision. here's my list of pro/cons so far: if i keep the car: Pro - 996 bodystyle, reliable engine (faithful to me at least), worthy track car, low maintanance. Con - need to fix bodypaint/bumpers = expensive, low maintanance but higher costs if something breaks. if i sell the car: Pro - can look into dedicated DE car with cage, seats, etc. possible club racing. cheaper investment = less risk on track = not as worried about stuffing it. Con - no more 996, and most likely no more 911 either. possibly not even a porsche. will lose out on investment in car (high milage plus wear and tear and depreciation = 25k or less for the car) so far i'm stuck in a rut and because i can't make a decision, the car just sits there by the trailer and does nothing. afraid to track it anymore cause i might sell it. i'm lost guys.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Keep the car and enjoy driving it. Buy a cheap spec miata for club racing.
Sounds like a no brainer keep the car... you will miss it when it's gone!
my 2 cents Keep it for now and enjoy - and gradually build it into a track car for PCA stock classes it will be cheaper than buying/building a dedicated track car with less preformance. and besides the value of the car is right - if you stuff it hard - part it out and start over. I'm in the same boat - no reason to sell at such a low price when i have a prefectly good platform already.
Keep it! But remember you are receiving advice from a person who never sells anything. I still have sports cars that I bought 35 years ago! Ask yourself, is it really worth say 25k not to have it anymore? Tom L
Keep it. Get DE insurance.
Faced similar decision. Bought a '03 996 and tracked it a few times. Recently began wondering if shouldn't have invested in spec RX7 or something fun & less expensive for track days. Keep the 996 as long term investment 'toy' - it'll last - you should think of it that way. Yeah, you could have invested it and had more money for nurses when you're 80 and in diapers but it's a lot more fun now. For the cost of a bumper, you can have a fun little track toy - think of it as pre-purchase on a track 'incident'. On track, no way you will ever just mess up your front bumper - but for the price of one, you can have a great little track toy e30. I miss the torque, power & speed of my 996 on track but I'll be a better driver for the lack thereof and a whole lot better off should something happen. Seriously, for about $3k you can have a fun dedicated little track car which at the very least, will help your odds when you do track that 996 sometime down the road.
keep it and buy another a second one for track day. 99s are to be had cheaply of late. Ub
