Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

8 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I am in the process of obtaining 2 stock 996 mufflers, with the intention of gutting them and producing my own "sport mufflers". Has anyone out there taken this on. Please advise-

POST 2Original post

I'm no engineer, but my limited understanding is that intake and exhaust systems today are designed ("tuned") to maximize airflow by avoiding unwanted resonant pressure waves. Your effort might actually reduce the hp your engine produces.

POST 3Original post

I did this. And it is MUCH better. It is amazing the amount of restriction there is in the stock exhaust. There are 3 chambers before the exhaust can exit the car. My muffler guy took somr pictures but he has not sent them to me. Throttle response is better and the growl does continue up the rpm band where as the stock muffler went quiet at 3k.

POST 4Original post

My GHL was so inexpensive, I didn't see the point in trying.

POST 5Original post

Tim, Who is your muffler guy and, if you don't mind me asking, how much did he charge?

POST 6Original post

DCM: Just talk to COnrad at Bud's Muffler at 10th and Santa Fe. Tell him Tim sent you. You can get the number and directions at www.budsmuffler.com . Ask him to have Jim do the work. Jim is a kick Azz welder. PM me if you have Q's Oh, maybe 200 bucks at the most. I had some other stuff done at that time so I am not sure but it is cheap.

POST 7Original post

Tim, Is the sound comparable to PSE, GHL, any other aftermarket exhaust, or is it completely different?

POST 8Original post

Well as I have never heard any of the above I cannot answer that. I wanted sound yes, but I also wanted more flow (helpfull here at altitude). You are more than welcome to stop by to listen to it. Although I have an 02 C4S it should be similar.
