Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

21 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

So maybe I wasn't in the 996 (I was driving my Z) but that son of a gun was next to me at a stop light and when I pulled out my phone to snap a pic he PUNCHED it! I am here to tell you that is one fast frickin car!!!!! And the sound was intoxicating. No CGT, but still very nice. Here's the pic I got as he was pulling away........

POST 2Original post

I love the SLR but have never seen one 'on the road.' Gotta love a 5-speed automatic that goes 200 mph.

POST 3Original post

That was probably Wayne Newton - you should have rammed him!

POST 4Original post

Damn LVDell. You are pretty fast on the draw with that cell phone!

POST 5Original post

My local Benz dealer had a SLR in showroom. I still wonder why a car of such caliber needs to be so civilized. I guess it's for an older person. I love cars that are raw and near race-car.

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

dmac....I was only quick on the draw b/c I saw him at the red light beforehand and got prepped very quickly! But as soon as I pulled up to the light and he saw my camera he took off. DAMN GREEN LIGHTS!!!!!!

POST 7Original post

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm fairly sure it's a 7spd automatic, not a 5spd.

POST 8Original post

Look at those long flat NV roads. If I lived there I would certainly have my license revoked by the state within a month.

POST 9Original post

Its a 5 speed. Mercedes' 7Gtronic transmission couldnt handle all the torque and power.

POST 10Original post

For 450k+ (some as high at 700k), it should BLOW the doors off and much more!

POST 11Original post

I've heard those things were fast but never actually seen one on the road. What if you had the 996??..hmmmmm.

POST 12Original post

Dell, the hood of your Z car looks cool. Post a pic or two here, will ya?

POST 14Original post

Dell, there you go, trotting out the Z again... You've got my juices going; off to autotrader I go! I'm gonna have to get a 10 car garage in the next house...

POST 16Original post

Dell, the condition of your car is phenomenal. See, that's what I am thinking with this 996. Keep it for 30 years so that the feel is about more than just the car; it's about the experience. Reminds me of my first motorcycle: a cherry 1981 Yamaha Maxim 550. Just a standard, but a black beauty and oh what I would give to get that little sucker back.....especially considering I only sold it for 1500 buckeroos.

POST 18 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks RJ Edward....that is the very reason I choose the Z more often than the 996 when I got out to the garage to leave the house. The experience in the Z is just one that is hard to describe.

POST 19Original post

It's amazing what the market is for the Z's right now. Lot's of people are restoring them and it's driving the price up. 10 years ago you could have had someone pay you to take it.

POST 20 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Rob, that is the very reason I have the car insured with a classic collector's insurance company (Haggerty) for stated value in case anything would happen to her I have a price that would help ease the pain versus the ACV that a typical insurance policy would pay (maybe $3K).

POST 21Original post

Stop it guys, you're killing me! With two kids and an impractical 996, I'll never talk the wife into the Z of my dreams.
