I have owned a 2004 C4S but now am helping one friend buy another friend's 2002 C4 Tip Cabriolet... What is that thing under the middle of the front truck that has a wire connected to it? Why does it seem that so much bass from the radio is coming from the lower front center console? Do they all squeak when hitting bumps?

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hmmmm not sure on the wire but the subwoofer is in the center console so that's that and no they don't all squeak - well maybe a little from the top but that's it.
If it squeeks with the ragtop up and it sounds like it is right behind your ear, you might need to lube the rubber bumpers/guides that are just above your ear when the top is closed. Put the top 1/2 way up (service position) and look for the rubber guides that keep the top from hitting the frame. You will see where the contact point(s) is/are. Put a little synthetic grease on the wear points.
Mine squeaked until I lubed the door stops. They get dry and need a little grease now and then. The thing with the wire sounds like the outside temp. sensor. The subwoofer is down in the center console because there's no room behind the rear seats due to the folding top.

Don't mean to hijack your thread, but I think you guys did a ECU flash for me years ago when I brought in my 2002 Audi TT.
Mine squeeks during the transition form fall to winter then it stops.
