Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

"Ideal candidate" would be a 2002 C 4 with less than 30,000 miles for around 50 K but I am willing to look at anything. Thanks. Christian

POST 2Original post

An '02 C4 Cab with less than 30K miles for $50K. That would be a steal. Being from Canada, are you saying $50K US or Canadain? Just as a point of reference, I purchased mine one year ago for $65K-original sticker $105K and $65K was a good price. I found it back east. Out here on the west coast, the same car would have been $70-$75K.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

US funds. I know 50 K is not a high price for a C4 but I already found an excellent C2 with 22 K miles for 50 K and with the 997 cab coming soon I don't expect supply to dry up (there are over 50,000 996 compared to 15,000 993 and most of them in the US). I am saying around 50K, meaning that I am a bit flexible. I don't want to offend anybody, I just have a limited budget and if I can't find it, then I will settle for an earlier model.

POST 4Original post

$50k for a 2002 C2 cab is a really good price if it's in pristine condition. I bought mine for $57k w/ 17k mi on eBay and that was the best price that I can get. I paid another $1k for shipping. C4 is pretty rare and you'll probably need the AWD for Canadian weather. Try the usual autotrader, ebay, and others. You will find a drop in price in the next 6-12 mo. as many owners will trade when their 4 yr warranty runs out. Not sure if you want to buy one without warranty though due to RMS and other expensive repairs.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I think 50K is probably too low. We also don't have that much snow here, so a C2 will do it I guess. I have to read more about the RMS issue but I am not too much concerned. I have dropped the engine on my last 911 (1991 C2) before and it's not that big of a deal. Does RMS mean rear main seal? The usual stuff with Porsche, they never get it right. I am also pretty sure that many of the so called RMS leaks are just other o-rings (a Porsche engine has plenty of them) leaking. You guys should have seen the puddles on my garage floor! I'd rather repair it myself and know it's done right. Nothing can scare a 951 owner anymore, trust me.
