Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

14 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I was doing a quick image search on Google, and came across the following junk yard site: http://www.20thstreetauto.com/cars/car119/view4.htm IMHO the unlucky 996 offered for sale here, for $26.8K US dlls, has to be the most expensive non-Turbo 996, when you consider how much more money you would have to throw in to bring it back to life. I bet at least $100K... What do you think?

POST 2Original post

I think you should pass on the car. Maybe you can get him to an even $26K. Then maybe!

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Jeff: Yeah that certainly seems to "sweeten" the deal...

POST 5Original post

That's just crazy. I mean, heck I spent only a few thousand more to buy my '99 911 Coupe earlier this month. Of course it helped that I was getting it for tradein value instead of retail as the dealer was a good friend of mine.

POST 7Original post

I got a set of tail lights that I'lllet go for a cool 5 grand!!!

POST 8Original post

well it might be worth alot parted out.. that's the problem with many of these 996s.. they are sellling for $30k-$35k, when honestly, the car is worth more parted out due to the high price of porsche parts.. even porsche salvage yards get 80% of the dealer cost for used old parts.. think about it.. the engine in that thing is worth $8,000, gearbox another $8,000, transmission another $6,000, all the interior parts, seats, lights, doors, wheels, tires, etc.. it's a parts car and i don't think $26k is unreasonable at all..

POST 9Original post

I wonder what happened to the car...did anyone email and ask?

POST 12Original post

I have seen that car before on eBay over the last year or so. It always get to about 15-20K and never meets the reserve.

POST 14Original post

Huh? Bob, did they charge you $8k for a gearbox and an addditional $6k for a tranny? Did they also charge you for an engine & motor?
