Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

An update on my situation: I got locked out of my '02 C4 cab after a 10-day vacation and my key wouldn't manually unlock the drivers door after the remote FOB became disabled as programmed. I had done a stereo upgrade and taken the door panels apart to install speakers, and I broke the cable release assembly. When I got the ($12) part installed, I apparently didn't install/route it properly and that's what caused this issue. I couldn't understand it because the remote FOB worked perfectly and the door open/unlock mechanism from the inside pull handle worked fine. The dealer mechanic re-routed the cable assembly and installed it correctly and all is well. I went ahead and replaced my remote batteries and everything works as it should - I was always disappointed in my remote's range (had to practically hover directly over the drivers window to operate) but w/ fresh batteries the remote works from a considerable distance. I feel like an idiot for causing my own problem, but I really appreciate the Rennlist community's advice and support during this episode. Now it's time to enjoy that beer.

POST 2Original post

I still don't understand why the windows wouldn't roll down if you held the key in the "unlock" position in the door for a few seconds. It would seem to me that a broken cable wouldn't affect this feature, but heck... what do I know? Do cabs have this feature?

POST 3Original post

Dennis :Why do you think the windows roll down when the key is in the lock and turned? The windows only roll down when the door handle is pulled and they only do that if the door is un-locked. His door was locked!

POST 4Original post

If you turn the key to the left, in the lock, then the windows will go down. I do this all the time to cool the car off before I get in. If you turn right (lock), the windows go up and the sunroof closes.

POST 5Original post

Mine doesn't do that! Do you have a special chip?

POST 6Original post

Mine will roll the windows down if you hold the key for a few seconds. If you turn it to the locked position, it will roll the windows up and close the sunroof. It's a standard feature on the Mk II cars, not sure about Mk I.

POST 8Original post

****! I just learned something!!! My car does this also the dealer never told me this and the salesman went over everthing in detail. I guess I should have RTFM. Thanks Guys!!!

POST 10 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

When I inserted my key and turned it to the right or left...nothing. At all. Ever. Now it works perfectly. These are incredibly complicated systems.

POST 11Original post

Wow I just tried and I'll be darned another thing learned. Thanks all

POST 14Original post

There's the problem, the windows will only roll down via key, 'once the door is unlocked'...doors never unlocked, windows don't go down.

POST 15Original post

See you guys need to do what I did when I got my car...I took my owner's manual to bed with me and read it from cover to cover. Granted I didn't remember most of what's there but at least I can say I did RTFM! Out of all the components though, the CDR-220 was the one that confused me the most. I couldn't figure out how to advance to the next song of a CD. Thankfully the manual helped me figure that one out. But talk about being confused at first about the functionality of that unit!
