Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

So, for my birthday, my wife bought me a nice Kenwood double DIN stereo for my 2002. Installing it meant taking the dash apart, doing some cutting with the trusty Dremel tool, and fitting the new unit in place. Since I was relocating the A/C head to the bottom position to make room for the new stereo, I also had the console portion apart. While I had it apart, I noticed a 4 plug molex type connector in the console area, not connected to anything. I know now that I should have searched for the corresponding connector, but at the time, I was pushing to get the install done and get the car put back together. The mystery connector is shown in the photograph. Upon putting everything back together, I notice the stereo works great, but my seat heater doesn't work. The light will come on so long as I hold the switch in the closed position, but that's it. I assume the mystery connector is for the seat heater, but down in the console area, where I found the connector, there's nothing to connect to at all. I don't mind taking the console apart again in case I missed something, but I'm sure hoping to avoid taking the dash apart again. Any ideas or suggestions will be greatly appreciated, as we've had some morning temps well below zero here in Denver already this year, and winter is just getting started. Thanks in advance! John

That's the connector for the telephone kit. It has switched power, unswitched power, ground and mic mute wires.

POST 3Original post

There is a mystery connector on the right hand side (passenger side) of the engine bay that no one seems to know what is for. At least you figured out pretty quickly thanks to Dennis that it was just a coincidence (to this plug) that your seat heater is now inop. Might still have something to do with the stereo install, but just not the plug.

Thanks for the info! It looks like I'll be opening up the dash again and pulling out the stereo :-(. Does anyone know of any resources for wiring associated with the seat heater? Thanks again!

Check that you didn't blow the fuse when installing, and check that you plugged it back in at the dash, When I did my stereo install I forgot to plug in the interim wiper control, since I never used it it took awhile to figure out that something was amiss.
