Lots of new 996 Porsche owners have come on board lately, and I think that's great for the community. Apparently, not everyone is frightened off by the numerous calls of impending failures that seem to be magnified and perpetuated on the internet. So, welcome all you newbies and hopefully we'll all learn something new about our water pumpers and can share information that will enable all of us to enjoy our Pcars more.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I completely agree! The 996 is such an amazing car for the money and I think more people are finding out that it can also be a very reliable car.
I think with the volume of 996 owners moving over to the turbo forums and selling their vehicles, it can be expected. I get the word out to as many porsche owners as possible about Rennlist. There are several "LinkedIn" groups that I belong to and have made several references to RL. What a great site!
^ +1 to Barn996!
I secretly think that there is currently a spike in demand for 996s. Soon the abundant supply of 996s will be reduced and the values will stabilize. Yes yes I know it is just wishful thinking but I can daydream!
I agree with Barn. Lots of new owners joining. I have also seen prices on internet for past few months coming up some too. Who knows, but I think the prices for earlier models have bottomed out... I feel am having a conversation about the real estate market
Good thread Steve (Barn). I just wish the newbies would learn how to hit the search button. Tons of info to be found on one's own......have you noticed how the topics are very cyclical? I know...that's a big word for me.
Right now the 996 is very affordable. I have been on rennlist since 2002, and I haven't found another site for Porsche with as much activity comradrie and assistance / advice like here at Rennlist
I'm a lurker/non-owner. I can say this site is MUCH more active with the newer 911 models than the other well-known Porsche site. That said, it seems things are MUCH more active there for the older 911 models. I sure hope the price isnt going up on 996s, at least not yet. It can go up all it wants as soon as I get one.
You ought to be able to locate that suits your wallet and meets your criteria,GL.

+1 Hey, just for the benefit of us new guys, let's start an IMS discussion & a "What oil is best?" thread!
This place is Grrrrrreat Tons of info available info, facts, how to's etc. And yes, much more active than the other site(s). I would have to agree with the cost of the 996 stabilizing. I sure hope others get the chance to purchase this fine machine before a price hike. I have been making a small mod list that I want to start when my garage warms back up :-( All to improve handling of course :-)

You may be able to type it ,but can you pronounce it? Hey Pete, how's it going?
There is someone who said they're planning on coming to pick up my car next week. (I told them no need for a deposit since I'd likely return it anyway if they backed out) I'm Keeping my fingers crossed. If the deal goes through I'll be looking hard for a 2002-04ish, Silver over Black, preferably a C4S. Anyone? Anyone? Anyone?

If I can say the word in my head does that count? Life is good Tim but busy. Looking forward to the Super Bowl here in Indy.....not attending but plan on hitting some festivities. They have put up a zip line downtown. $10 for 800 feet sailing over the crowds. I'd be the guy losing my lunch on the crowd below Good to see you lurking on familiar grounds.
As a cross member with the Audizine, I appreciate you guys in this forum and all the help when I bought mine a couple of months ago. Was able to fix a very spark plug tube oil leak from the info garnered here and got my charcoal hard top for a song.
this forum was invaluable when I was looking for my car. I'm one of the typical stories of a guy that wanted a Porsche since high school and decided to finally do it. It was a toss up between a 964 and 996 but the 996 won. Unbelievable to me how great it is to to own and drive such a fine car. Kudos to those of you that don't mind helping us newbs out. It's much appreciated. Bill
I'm new to this website. Posted a topic introducing myself half an hour ago. Looking forward to learn more about the mysterious 996!
