Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

The radiator intake grills have apparently been painted to match the body. I have not noticed this on other C4S cars before so am wondering if this could have been done at manufacture. FYI, the colour is advertised as 'Carmon Red Metallic'. Carfax shows evidence of an accident... but its in inventory at a pretty well regarded dealership. Thanks, Michael

POST 2Original post

Looks like a DIY'er. Never seen them painted before.

POST 3Original post

2004 40th anniv. models have them painted like that.

POST 5Original post

Either way I like it. Does the dealer know what part of the car was involved in the accident?

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Looks like 2 separate accidents I have made inquiries to figure out if they have details on the accidents. FYI, its listed at $43k ... (its a 3 owner car with 46k miles). Cheers, Michael

$43K, obviously the dealer needs his markup. two accidents and alot of documentation still doesn't bring it to that price. Is the car highly optioned? the paint looks awesome, love the color; but the dealer pry has a great bodyshop to give it that look, so hopefully it isn't hiding some deeper problems. thorough PPI. Obv. C4S are desireable for NA 996 varieties. prices have held steady for the past few years. If you are patient, you can come across a well maintained and documented C4S, esp here on RL. I would say $40K or less for a better deal on a coupe. And that's with a thorough PPI and in very good to excellent condition inside/outside, engine, suspension, brakes, undercarriage and documented maintenance. did I mention a thorough PPI? GL and pre-congrats if you purchase.

POST 8Original post

Agree. High price for that car, even in outstanding condition, given three owners and mileage, although the color is stunning. Remove $5K from their asking price at your negotiation, unless it's coming with a CPO (may just make the cut-off) and another $1-2K in the trunk in cash (or a few nice options), or you really like it, in which case, go for it.

POST 9Original post

I would stay away from a car with 2 accidents, especially since they are asking top dollar. You will have trouble selling a car with 2 accidents when you are ready to move on

POST 11Original post

The intake grilles are black plastic and with extended exposure to sun fade to a mottled grey to white looking pretty bad. Also they are expensive and in the case of an accident it could be cheaper to plastic weld them and repaint rather than replace. I admit they look good in the pic. For the price, you could get a similar looking model with air intakes in the rear fenders and a wide spoiler on the rear deck. Oh, and a motor forever free from IMS issues. The down side is you insurance may be a tad more.
