Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Good evening all, I have a 2001 996. Ive been working on the top a little bit at a time for a few months now trying to get it to operate so that I can take it in and get the material prepared and rear window repair. I finally got it to operate into the closed position as it should and latching down and everything perfectly. When I open the top, it opens and operates as it should, but when the clamshell comes back down, the latch doesnt grab it. There must be a sensor somewhere that Ive missed thats either still pushed or not pushed causing the clamshell latch to not operate with top and down position. Also a little more information which might be helpful. The side flaps are broken and do not operate on their own as they should, I have to manually push them into the down position until they make contact with the micro switches and also have to raise them back up, when stowing the top. thanks in advance for your help.

POST 2Original post

Get a scanner. Fix the side flaps issue. Do a synchronization of the blue potentiometer at the motor controlling the clampshell. Do a calibration with a scanner. There are no silver bullets.

Thanks for the reply. So. I kept digging and went ahead and removed the flaps, I didnt realize they had two micro switches on them, top and bottom. I put it all back together with the exception of the upper micro switches, left them out so I could get to them, and when I got the top down and the clamshell close to going stowing, I wedged the switches in between a couple spots to hold the micro switch down and the clamshell closed and latched properly. So definitely the clamshells I already ordered some lol. I did the synchronization the first time A dug into it a couple months ago. That was actually pretty cool learning how to do that, but I do still need to get a scanner just to have.Thank you again
