Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Where are you buying the second key? Can they program it? I recently bought a 2004 Tahoe at an Auction. It came with only 1 key and 1 fob. Coincidentally I got a call from the Saturn dealer doing some customer service follow up on a service appt we had for my wife's Aura. The service manager apologized for his tech leaving some grease on the A strut (fabric side). He made good on it and then said if there is anything else we can do, please let me know. I said, "can you help me get a second key and fob for my 2004 Tahoe". He asked me the vin # and ordered the part. Two days later he called me and said it was in. I had to bring the Tahoe to the Saturn dealer for them to "program" the fob. ("programing" was less than a minute, point the fob at the car and hold down a certain button for 15 or so seconds. He charged me parts only, no service or programming fee. Total $50. Point of my story is maybe in our cars "programing" is as simple as holding down a button or two for 15 seconds and Porsche dealers want to charge over $100 to do it. We can figure this one out. Good luck, Andy T

Most Porsche dealers seem to charge an HOURS labor for this, I was able to get my local dealer to do it or 1/2 hours labor on my old 986S, It takes perhaps 10 Minutes, if that. Make sure you get a new key with the white tag attached that had the Keys info. When I bought my 996 I made sure the dealer got me 2 keys And, Welcome to Rennlist!

it is a bit more complicated than point and click as i have had it done a couple of times with a key that kept "forgetting" how to work. It probably takes a half hour all in by the time they look up codes and hook up the computer etc etc. Hence they will charge you a standard hour unless you have a relationship and you should be able to get a 30min charge
