I am considering trading my brand new '04 c2 cab for an '02 TT coupe. Is this nuts? I love my car's handling, but it feels slow to me. My car has 1500 miles and cost about 92k (new) when you consider the mods. The TT has 18k miles (a lot of miles in my book for an '02) and the asking price is 94k. In your opinion, what would be a great deal for me? (keep in mind that I will get wacked with a 7k tax hit-- which may be a deal killer-- because this would be a person-person private sale). I probably will not pull the trigger on this one, but would love to hear your thoughts. Any input appreciated. Thanks.

I am considering trading my brand new '04 c2 cab for an '02 TT coupe. Is this nuts? I love my car's handling, but it feels slow to me. From a financial perspective, it's nuts. The depreciation on an '04 will be ridiculous unless you have a buyer lined up who wants your car optioned exactly the way it is. In other words why would I pay you $90K for your car unless it was exactly the car I wanted. You should be able to get an '02 TT for around $85K, but I have no idea what you will be able to get for your car. Hey, if you've got the money, go for it. I worked my way through College with a variety of jobs. One of them was as a carpenter's helper. I remember working on a job to remodel a kitchen in a very expensive home. There was a great deal of custom work done according to the specifications of the owner of the house. The price for the job was around $25K. After the work was completed the guy didn't like the way it looked, so he had us rip out all of the custom work and replace it with another design. The moral of the story is that if you've got the money, go for it. If money is an issue it would be a good idea to rethink what you propose. One word of caution. No matter how much HP your car has, you will after a period of time get accustomed to it, and seek ways to increase it. I've known guys who had cars with almost 500 HP who weren't satisfied, and they spent thousands more trying for extra power.
I'd do it because i dont like cabs. And a widebody, all wheel drive has tons more equipment than a regular 996. But with all the turbos out there for sale, I think you can get one for a lot less that $94.
Thanks for the advice guys. Excellent point Sly re: horsepower. The grass is always greener. BTW, I wasn't suggesting tyhat someonw would pay 90k for my car-- that's too high. What I was trying to figure out is my car plus how much $$$ = an '02 TT? But I think you're probably rihgt that the deal is too expensive for me given the 7k tax problem. OKbarnett-- the TT market is pretty tight, but you are right that you can find an '02 for less than 94k. Tha was just an asking price. I think mid to high 80's is realistic. Thanks again.
