I got in my 1999 996 tonight and put the key in the ignition and tried to start the car. The key all of a sudden was jammed, and I couldn't turn the key or start the car. After playing with it, I finally got it to start the car, but as soon as I let go of the key, the car would stall. It's as if the key springs back just enough not to make a connection. What do I do? Is this something I can fix my self, or do I have to go to the dealer and spend $1,500 on a $25 part? Please help. Thanks, Frank

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.
3 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

Frank, Welcome to Rennlist. I'll move your post to the 996 forum - the 'Help' forum is really for help with Rennlist itself.
Sounds like a bad ignition switch, which is common. The switch is actually an Audi switch. You can replace it yourself. The part is about $40.
