Ok, my fathers key is stuck in the ignition. Cant get it out at all. Not only that, the radio wont turn off while the key is in it, so he has disconected the battery. He said it was tough the last two times to remove, and this time, he cant get it out at all. Odd about the radio though. Thoughts?

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Is it a tiptronic? I had an Audi S4 tiptonic and if after using manual mode, you did not move the shift lever over all the way, it would think it was still in drive and not let the key out. Not sure it the Porsche would be the same, but it is a thought.
Common issue with the 996, the plastic ignition switch cylinder is an Audi part which breaks easily can cause the key gets stuck in the ignition. So a search for ignition switch.
