My window made a crunching sound on the way up tonight so I know something is going to let go soon. My question is, will I need the whole track or the "worm gear" bolt? The bolt is only $6 while the cable track is $230 . The bolt appears (by Pelicans' schematic) to transfer the power of the motor to the cable system and I am hoping it is the problem. Wishful thinking? Right when I am about to trade up.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Just had P do this on passenger door, $325.

Do you know what they replaced? I am going to order it soon but I dont want to troubleshoot, hoping someone knows the crunching sound and what failed.
The crunching sound is the Bowden cable getting twisted on the take up spool of the window regulator. You need a completely new regulator, sans motor. World Parts has them for about $200 and it's an easy DIY.

The motor and the cable system are seperate, so which is $200, the cable system or the motor? Pelican has the cable system for $230, the motor for $250. I'll have to check out World parts.

Sorry, I had the name wrong. I ordered from Auto Parts World and the price was for the regulator assembly: http://www.autopartsworld.com/2000_p...tor_parts.html
Thanks Doug, that is a good price.
Cory - BTW, there is a good DIY on this that someone posted when doing his Boxster. Internal assembly is the same on Box & 996 doors. Do a search on "regulator" and you will find it.
