Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

3 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I am posting this for a friend. I have owned Porsches for over twenty years but don't know much about the 996's and was wondering if anyone could shed some light on this (No pun intended) Oil pressure gage is showing adequate pressure. Dip stick says OK. Oil light is on constantly. I would assume if the sending unit was NG then we would not be seeing any pressure on the gage. Any input?

POST 2Original post

There are 2 wires from the sender unit. For the gauge and the idiot light. My guess is a bad sender where one function works, but it should be checked out as this is a guess.

POST 3Original post

Low oil level in 996's is shown on the digital gauge on the dashboard. If the oil level is too low, the digital gauge will flash constantly showing low level for at least 30 seconds before switching to the clock mode. It happened to me a lot of times and this is when i need to add at least a quart for the level to be normal again. My input.. Waz
