Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

5 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

The other day I started her up for a drive on a beautiful 60 degree day in Chicago. After starting the car, I noticed that the oil pressure gauge was pinned to the top at five. I thought maybe the gauge got stuck and shut her off. THe needle dropped adn I started it up again the needle shot up to 5 again. After driving and getting the engine warmed up the needle went back down to the 2.5 - 3.5 range. My VR-4's oil guage doens't go up to max at anytime. Is this normal for the 996 or should I take her in for a look. Thi was the first time I noticed it. Before that, the last time I drove it was about 5 or six days prior. Thanks Bob

POST 2Original post

It's a German thing. Porsche and Mercedes both run with the oil pressure gauge pegged except at low RPM.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

thanks fellas, much appreciated!!!

POST 5Original post

Yep on a cold start oil pressure is at 5 but when warmed goes down to 1-2 at idle. Normal I say : ). Mike
