Hello Gentlemen- On a 993, you can drill holes in the airbox to create a deeper intake sound which is very noticeable under heavy acceleration. Will drilling holes in the airbox in my 996 give me the same sound results as in my 993? AND, will it not be detrimental to the car(as it was not detrimental to my 993) .

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I am not sure about that, but fabspeed makes the cold air box, that works real well on the 996, or you can always do the orange cap plug trick.......its allmost free , do a search if your not sure what i am talking about
Do a search, there is a major problem with doing that, can't recall the details.
Related (but opossite) question: I was thinking of sealing the drain holes in my airbox to prevent engine heat from coming in. I notice there's a large group of holes in one area. Are they for increased airflow? Will sealing them have a negative result. btw-MR, I did the orange cap mod. I think it'll give you the result you are looking for.
I did the sealing with some packing tape. I think the benefit is reducing the hot air intake. The holes are there to drain water out when it gets in the airbox from rain, washing, etc.
Go with Orange Cap!
For very 10 degrees Fahrenheit your intake charge air temp goes up, you lose a marked degree of power. It is simple physics. The hotter air is less compressible in the cylinders making for less "ignitability" for the same volume of air as a charge that is colder and denser. In a naturally aspirating engine, it is a big no no.
A lot of things were talked about above. Which thing is the no no??
Anything that heats up your air charge, like drilling the box. Todd Z. had to refund a lot of people for a cold air intake design that turned out to be a hot air power reducing intake in the not so recent past.
