Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hey guys I just posted this in the Off Topic area. It would be great to hear some suggestions. Ok, I tried to link to it but was unable to . Could I get some assistance? Thanks

How about a fly-in fishing trip to Canada? It's a great way to bond, relax, and enjoy nature together. www.ganglers.com Another thought would be a whitewater river rafting trip. I just took a trip down the Futeleufu river in Chile with the wife earlier this year. It was an amazing trip. www.earthriver.com

Porsche Driving Experience? 24 Heures du Mans? A Formula 1 Race? Germany to visit Porsche or even a Treffen Trip? Rolex 24 at Dayonta? Monteray Historics? Goodwood Festival of Speed (June, UK) C.

My brother in law and his brother own this fishing camp. I haven't been there but I hear that it will ruin every other fishing experience you will ever have! The magazines have done articles on it. Lakers over 30 lbs are caught regularly as well as very large pike. http://www.lakersunlimited.com/

Take a look at this: http://worldclassdriving.com/ I did this last year and it was a blast. (link to my driving experience: http://www.thespeeddemon.com/aboutme/other/wcd.htm )

Thanks WellardMac. I had a feeling it would be you or Gota911 that would help out. In the O/T section there are some amazing ideas and some humorous comments. Fishing is out as he is not much of an outdoorsman. I took him camping once in the smokies and when he finished eating his fill of canned tuna he threw the rest out in the woods. I was too late to stop him. All night we were pestered with skunks. I was so worried a bear would make a visit.

No problem, you're welcome. Unfortunately I really can't make a good suggestion as to trips that you might be able to take... the thought of doing that with my father fills me with horror. I doubt I'd last 12 hours in the same situation. I like the car themed trips though.

I have a 5 year old daughter, we went to American Girl Place. I'm bringing zero to this conversation.

POST 10Original post

Is your dad a car guy? (I assume so.) Ask him what he has always wanted to do but hasn't been able to yet. Also plan lots of activities. Stay away from driving tours if you think you will start to drive each other crazy. I like the idea of a performance driving school.

POST 11Original post

Zoolander, First of all this is great of you to put so much effort and thought into this for your Dad. Bill Bellichick from the Patriots recently told the press the reason he dresses like he does on the sidelines is that he has reached the "I don't care" phase of his life. If your Dad dresses the same on the weekend as weekdays, as you mentioned, it sounds like he has reached this phase too. I am only 50 and I am getting there quickly. I read just about all the posts in the OT thread and this one. I like BoulderNick's idea of a "explore your roots" type experience. If you can combine that with some of his interests when he was young (maybe ask aunts and uncles if possible) and/or if your Dad served in the military (too young for WWII) perhaps visit a place or two that would have meaning for him. My oldest son is 24. If he wrote a few options down under each of the headings above and asked me to add some and then pick which one's I'd like to do, I would be floored knowing how much forethought he put into it. I lost my Dad when I was 24. This is a great thing you are doing for him (and you). Have a great time. Andy T

To add on to the Driving Tour I mentioned, the organization that I did this with just emailed me about an event in Hawaii where you get to drive 6 supercars (Lamborghini SuperLeggera, Ferrari Scuderia, Ferrari 599 GTB, Mercedes McLaren, Maserati Gran Turismo and a ?). You also get 2 nights at a Resort & Spa, car rental, participate in a golf tourney. So if the 2 of you are both into super cars and golf this could be a great opportunity. PM me if you want more information as I am not affiliated with the organization whatsoever and cannot advertise them within the forums.

HPDE weekend at VIR. I've done this for my Dad for his birthday and turned into a great father/son weekend. Since he's also a "track guy", we've done this at Road Atlanta, Carolina Motorsports Park, and Sebring for various birthday-type celebrations. VIR is still my favorite though.

POST 14Original post

I was going to say fishing as well, I just took my dad to Brazil last month for peacock bass fishing. He turned 72 on the 11th! We had a great time!!

POST 15Original post

I'm trying to get my father to do the 6-day Targa Newfoundland Rally with me. Although comments about driving each other crazy are likely valid.

POST 16 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

AndyT- Thanks for the complement. At times we may be at each other's throats but overall it should be an enjoyable experience. The roots idea is a great one which I will use. He lives in Maine during the summer which is the state of his "roots" so I am thinking of two to three days riding around the state having him show me where he grew up etc. This part should be relatively cheap. For the second part I am thinking of renting a sports car in California and having him show me around the towns he lived in there and then either up the coast or into the winelands. I will also look into the Treffen trips in Europe with maybe a tie in with LeMans. Shuster-Since I live so close to VIR he has been on the track before and will hopefully again soon. Kevin- Wow, now that looks like an amazing trip! Nice photo. Ninja- My father and I discussed that event too. If I remember correctly there are three levels of competition. The most basic level would be the one we would do but it still would require some serious time and money commitments.
