Everyone, Last weekend, I bought my first p-car. It was a 996, and I have have learned a lot just by going through the process. Before I got too serious about my purchase I came on here did some searches, and even posted a thread, asking for advice. The point being, I think a lot of people have the same questions, and could benefit a lot from a central thread with general buying advice. At the very least it would solve having to answer the same questions over and over. We can even keep this an open discussion about the process. Perhaps, later, I will compile the thread into a more organized format. But for now let's welcome open discussion, and let's assume the prospective owner has already decded on buying a 996 (so forget the 993 vs. 996 rhetoric). I'll start it off, with an obvious and very general one: Get a pre-purchse inspection . A pre-purchse inspection, PPI, is a thorough inspection from from a reputable, unbias source (someone, not involved in the sale of the car, that has experience with 996's). What you want from the inspection is list of any problems, big or small, with the car. If there are a lot problems, it may just convince you to walk away. If there is nothing catestrophic, you can, in most cases, use the inspection as barganing tool, and likely recoupe the cost of the PPI and then some. As with anything, all PPI's are not equal, so be sure to find out exactly what the PPI involves. Comments, suggestions, or ammendments...I still a noob so please feel free to correct me. Next please... P.S. I did search for something like this and could not find it. If this already exists, or you think it's a bad idea, thats fair too. If you have a topic, but lack the expertese, say so, and hopefully we can get someone to chime in on it. P.P.S. My browser is complaining about the spell checker, so tough!

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.
1 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.
