for being 'gay' about your car? i'm from London and I now live in Nashville with my girlfriend who is originally from East tennessee she makes fun of my defensive parking, can't understand why I won't valet park, won't take it to shady areas weekend evenings and castigates me for having a car I won't take eveywhere like her jeep cherokee on the plus side she doesn't care about my mod fetish, saying my PSE upgrade was a great idea she now tells me I need to get an additional more practical car (we have no kids/live basically in the city and I work from home) after owning a BMW that was keyed/spray painted on a few occassions in the UK I am loathe to cave in to her pressure. Anyone in my area have a 1990's chevvy pickup for sale?

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. I live by this sadi to me from a 70 year old Porsche Club member. "...if you have to explain it, they will never understand." Chad
They are just wired differently. Thank God! I wouldn't want to be married to someone like me. Mine loves the car( although she let my 15 year old son drive it around the block yesterday). She doesn't get the mod thing but she doesn't hassle me about it.
WOT!!!! Chad
WTF!!!! I'm dyin over here!!!
Had you been raised in the south as I was you would KNOW to go north to find a SO. I'm from AR she's from MT. Only rules I remember hearing is no cruise control above 100MPH and no cruising above 130MPH, and that was on the Autobahn. MT road rules are totally different.

just take her on a drive down the Natchez trace on a beautiful day...then she might come closer to "getting it".
is she your wife or girlfriend? My girlfriend thinks I'm kinda nuts because of my obsession with cars [especially p-cars], but then again I don't give her crap for buying $200 pairs of jeans and having 40 pairs of shoes. As someone mentioned above, men and women are "wired" differently--don't get into a situation where you have to give in because of someone else's wants--find a girl that loves you, car freak or not. [And if you already married her, you knew what you were getting into so that's your deal!! ] Seriously though, she has a Cherokee--that is practical. You already have one car that you can use that is practical, why would you need another one?
The only flak I get from my wife about both Porsches is that she doesn't get to drive them enough. Things could be worse. To be honest, what she says about buying a beater car to take all those places you won't take the Porsche makes a lot of sense. It frees you from the worries. That's what I did.....but without the wife's input.
shes currently my fiancee. she has no issue with it apart from how protective I am, despite the fact that some redneck crackwhore reversed into my passenger door 6 weeks ago (IN HER PARENT'S DRIVEWAY OF ALL PLACES) our incomes are slightly different (age is about the same) - she has a full time job and is in law school. Her car has 240,000 miles on it and says we don't use my car enough. I average 1000 miles per month which I would say is probably well above average for a 996. oh well
I'm fine with her driving, I just tell about her getting rear-ended when she slams on the anchors and parking where people will ding the door I am now officially on the lookout for a ****ty old truck. I need one anyway to cart crap around in
If I bought a beater car, I know she would be taking the p-car (sneaking it out mid day while i am at work)
She has never given me flak. She grew up with brothers who are car nuts. You can always do what I did. Give her a Porsche .
not luxury enough - she wants a beemer 325 convertible. she quite like the cayenne though

I wouldn't expect her to understand or do the same of what you do. However, she should respect your opinion. If she keeps on harassing you, you need to move on. It's not a choice over the car or her. It's a choice of her vs you & your values. You don't want a girl that dictate how to drive, park etc. No girl would respect you if you do. If I have a crappy jeep with 240k mi, I probly would not care about dings much. However, I'd understand why someone w a nice car would. Her telling you that you should treat your car like hers is just not right. My GF gets it. She never borrows my car bc she just isn't careful like I am. She has respect for my car bc she knows I care.
Not if you keep the keys!!
Dump the girlfriend and get a 997 and move to Malibu.
