I just saw on Bloomberg TV an announcement that Porsche was recalling 18,000+ 911 cabs for the top raising/lowering mechanism. Does anyone know the details (year, VIN numbers, etc.)? Thanks! John

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

993 Cab, NOT anything else. http://www3.uk.porsche.com/english/g...04-12-29-1.htm
This recall is for model 993 cabs built between August 1993-Jan. 1998 only--it relates to faulty roof mechanisms causing it to open accidentally during high-speed travel. There are 8,252 affected vehicles in Europe and 8,952 in the US. There have been no reported accidents. http://www3.uk.porsche.com/english/g...04-12-29-1.htm
Interesting that this is the second major recall of a 911 long out of warranty in one year (993 wiring harness), yet the RMS problems have yet to be addressed in a campaign ... although I suppose engine fires and shredding roofs at speed are more of a safety concern than oil leaks. Vic 95 C4 cab
Maybe the "RMS problems" aren't of such import as to warrant a recall. My five drop a week leak was fixed by the installation of an improved seal and has gone over 17K miles since.
