I've read how the A/C systems on the 996's are fairly solid, so why would my '02 cab stop working w/ only 26k miles on the clock? When I started it up today, there was an unusual whine noise (sounded like a belt slipping?) then the cold air became warm. I tried cycling the compressor several times by hitting the snowflake button and back to 'auto' and while I could feel a surge in blowing air, the temp remained ambient. I'm not a big wrencher, but is there anything I can check, or am I in for my first maintenance experience w/ my 996?

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Take off the accessory belt if you can and see if you can turn the AC compressor by hand. It sounds like your compressor died if you heard a whine, the compressor is the only rotating AC component besides the blower fan in the cab.
What about a fuse??
