Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi, My friend has "pinner" (only kidding) 17 inch factory wheels on his MY2000 996. I have a set of turbo twist 18's that he is interested in purchasing. My understanding is that the width and offset to the rear wheels are different than the 18's that the factory would ordinarilly place on the car. Will these Boxster sized rear wheels fit properly on his car? I am assuming the front wheels all have the same offsets for 993's, Boxster, and 996? What are the negatives of him having these wheels placed on the car? Any significant problems? He is not tracking or autocrossing the vehicle and just uses it on weekends or to impress his dates.

POST 2Original post

You would need spacers to correct for the change in geometry of the car in relation to the wheel. Same as if you put narrow body 996 wheels on a wide body 996, spacers would be needed to fix. 986 wheels on a 996 need spacers 996 narrow on a 996 wide need spacers. Going the other direction is trickier since the wheels will stick out too far. can be done but not reccomended. FYI....they make 996 wheels in 986 offsets and 996 wide body wheels in narrow offsets.

POST 3Original post

If you are talking about a 9" wheel with a 52 mm offset, it should fit fine. The inner lip would be 25.7 mm further away from the chassis and the outer lip would be right on. No spacer is needed.
