Is there body style differences between the basic Carrera and the 4S? I understand that the Turbo and 4S are very similar except for the side air intakes. (I am not a long term Porsche person, but am a future owner of a Turbo "S" - May delivery. So I don't know how many of these models differ. Frankly, I am learning as I go.) For instance in the debate of 997 versus 996 look and feel are we comparing all 996's or base Carrera 996 vs base Carrera 997?
The basic Carrera is a narrow body, the TT & C4S are wide bodies.
Also, the basis carrera and the 4s have diferent noses. The basic carrera front bumper has large, long horizontal intakes, while the 4s and the TT have smaller openings with grills. The 4s and TT are nearly identicle, but the 4s has a slightly different shaped plastic appendage at the bottom of the bumper.
Additionally, the only 997 available now is the regular narrow body. The turbo/4S wide body wont be here for about 2 yrs. The 996 turbo/4S wide body is wider than carrera narrow body. The turbo and 4S have same front and rear bumpers, and lower side rockers and different shape than narrow bodys. Both rear wings and pop up flaps are different than narrow bodys. Both turbo/ 4S have 4 wheel drive. And both come with more standard equipment like PSM and full leather and metallic paint. Both have special lowered suspension and big red brakes, and biggest tires and wheels, which narrow body cars dont. You get a lot more for your money with a turbo and 4S.
turbo and 4S share the same-identical: body suspension braking system gearbox everything BUT the engine:i.e. no air inlets to rear wings and of course no rear wing for the 4S
This was educational. Thank you all for helping me understand the body differences between the Turbo / 4S and base Carrera. Since the body style of the base Carrera (seems to me) to be so similar from the 996 to 997 - then why the emotion over the differences? They both seem like beautiful cars to me. But, as we see, I am not that knowledgeable about the models.

Well, that and the larger engine, active suspension, ugly wheels and steering wheel, upgraded interior, and of course the new mirrors. BTW tse-tse, after reading yor post I felt somewhat... sleeeeeepy

Not a harsh debate here, it's just that we're all a little nuts, when it comes to our Porschi. And ofcourse, the 996 C4S is the most beautiful car! Ever!!
