Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Last week I visited the Porsche & Mercedes Museum in Stuttgart with my wife. The museums were both interesting and they are free. Mercedes has a bigger exhibit and more history. The Porsche museum is right at the factory and had about a dozen cars. I wanted to get a Porsche factory tour, but never found the contact info until I got there. Next time! So I thought I would post the contact info here. Werksfuhrungen factory tours - Porsche (+49)[phone removed] [email removed] I also got a short tour of the European delivery area with a whole room full of new cars waiting for their new owners to pick them up.

Factory tour is a bit of a let down you didnt miss much. We did it in early September and was fairly disappointed

POST 3Original post

Arthur --- While I'll agree that the present Zuffenhausen tour is not as intimate (w/ the build process) as the tour of the factory prior to the major production process changes of the 1990's, the current tour is still very well done (I went again a year ago). If you were maybe expecting a MB-style presentation, all polished and sterile, then no doubt you would be disappointed. Being able to walk amongst the engine build carousels, watch engine testing being performed and observe the complete assembly line was fascinating for me. Back in '91, the tour was too cool; walking in between the frame welding lines getting sprayed w/ bits of weld arc debris, watching the German ladies sewing the Cab tops; much more of that type of work is now done off-site and delivered just-in-time for assembly. I highly recommend that any Porsche-O-Phile take the complete factory tour at least once in your life (the museum is a bit underwhelming, except for the nifty cutaway versions of the current model cars!). Better yet, pick up your new P-car at the factory and take the tour then! Jeff

POST 4Original post

Jeff, Thats what I mean the 91 tour would have been more what I would have expected and wanted to see. Unfortunately Porsche does not even have a press shop any more and 75% of the 9x6 series car is outsourced. I am a passionate Porsche-O-Phile and I consider it a must for all Porsche drivers to take the pilgrimage but I would want something more than engine calibration and assembly on the tour. The one thing I did like about the tour was all the pointless info you learn like the soft tops is a joint venture of Porsche that also supplies Ferrari and Recaro was once owned by them until recently. Nothing earth shattering but interesting none the less

POST 5Original post

Arthur --- Yep, I concur about the minutiae; there were so many cool little engineering factoids, and during the tour I kept saying to myself "that's a fun thing to know, I'll definitely remember that". A year later, I can't remember crap. But whenever I strap into my red beauty, I know all that I need to know Jeff
