Anyone have any track expereicne in a 997 in sport mode AND a 996 with suspension mods? How do the two compare??? Assuming the 997 with the PASM in sport mode is better suited for the track than a 996, is it possbile to mod a 996 to the equivalent level of handling? If so, at what cost??

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

My experience is with a 996TT with PSS9s on 2nd-to-stiffest setting and track alignment, and a stock 997S. Even with the 997 in sport mode, the 996 has better body control, more grip, and feels more predictable. AWD vs. RWD plays a large role as well, I'm sure. And I wouldn't say a PASM 997 is "better" for track than a 996, it just depends on what you're expecting out of the car. Many different setups to go with: progressive vs. linear spring, damper bump & rebound settings, the list goes on.
I believe also this is not the best comparison. Too apples to oranges. The track alignment and roll stiffness will drastically effect the results. If what you are asking is if PASM is comparable on a 997S to a sports suspension on the track? Porsche has actually already answered this one: definitely not. Outside the US (ROW) they have an optional sports suspension (code P17) that lowers the car 20mm (10mm more than PASM) and includes stiffer springs, shocks, sway bars and an LSD. You can't get the sports suspension option with PASM. The sports suspension is a no-cost option on the S that deletes PSM. The sports suspension is faster at the track. There are some reviews from overseas online and the assessment is that it is much stiffer than the previous ROW M030 suspensions on the 996 and that PASM has a better street/track compromise.
Now if we are talking about PASM on another 997 model then the answer is defintely yes, the car is suited for the track. That car? The 997GT3.
Live Nupe, I had a '02 996 C2 and put the MO30 (European Sports Suspension) on the car and loved it. I tracked it quite a bit and it was perfect for that purpose. It was a bit rough for a daily driver but doable. Also, it looked a lot better (20mm lower in the back and 10mm lower in the front). I progressed to a GT3 after that and definitely a different animal. I now have a 997S with just 800 miles on it. I haven't tracked it yet (waiting for break in period). However, I have taken it on the twisties in sport PASM mode and Sport mode in the Sport Chrono. I loved it. It had much of the same feel as my 996 C2 Mo30 but with better dampening. Plus, the regular around town mode is great. With the options that PASM and Sport Chrono give you it feels like you have a choice between two different cars. With respect to the sport chrono, there has been some discussion about the throttle mapping changes and the ability to modulate the throttle in that mode. Although on the public roads I didn't do a great deal of throttle steering, I did like the sensitivity it gave me for heel toe. If you are interested, I will report back after my first track day in the "S" at Road Atlanta on the 19th. By the way if you want the 996 Mo30, the guy who did mine in LA was great. If interested let me know and I will give you his name.
ECS, I'd appreciate an update after Road Atlanta and the contact info for your guy in LA.
