Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I always think I have a clutch prob after being in hire cars. I have not driven my porsche for 2 weeks as I have been on holiday in hire cars. First time I get in the p car clutch is like I need some lead in my foot to get it down. Just to check, is there any test to see if it is wearing down too much? I remeber it also being a lot lighter after my last major service.

POST 2Original post

When a clutch is new, it has a lighter feel. As it gets worn, it willl have a stiffer or heavier feel.

POST 3Original post

we go to the uk yearly to visit family and after clutching there i always think something is wrong with my clutch...so damn heavy

When a clutch is new, it has a lighter feel. As it gets worn, it willl have a stiffer or heavier feel. Actually some clutches are stiff right out of the box. My '02 M3's clutch was extremely stiff the first time I drove it and the car had 4 miles on the odometer when I took delivery..

POST 6Original post

You are correct. I was speaking in general, relative terms. I think it is difficult to compare relative clutch resistance between brands (Porsche vs. BMW vs. Viper vs. 'Vette) because of the differing specs of the clutches. A "weak" clutch in one make might feel like a "strong" clutch in a different make of car.

POST 7Original post

FWIW, a new clutch kit in a newer style Porsche will always feel lighter. Not sure about any other cars.
