I have a choice of buying Pirelli n3s or n4's, is there any difference? Also these tires are for the rear, is there any place on the front tires( replaced recently) if I can see if they are 3's or 4's?

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

N spec is N spec and across brands you CANNOT compare N spec numbers. But, if you are within a specific tire and ALL things are equal (size and brand) then go with the higher number since if you were to encounter an N3 and N4 of a specific tire then the N3 would be the tire that was superceded. Hence, the N4 is the newest iteration of the tire from that manufacturer.
Thanks, going for the 4's then.

One more thing..... this is from a good N-Spec article that Tire Rack has ( http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tirete....jsp?techid=26 ) : Production tires that have passed all of the tests and received the engineering department's release can be branded with an N-specification. The N-specification brandings include: N-0 (N-zero), N-1, N-2, N-3 or N-4. These markings on a tire's sidewall clearly identify them as approved by Porsche for their vehicles. The N-0 marking is assigned to the first approved version of a tire design. As that design is refined externally or internally, the later significant evolutions will result in a new generation of the tire to be branded with N-1, N-2, N-3, etc., in succession. When a completely new tire design is approved, it receives the N-0 branding and the succession begins again.
