Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

3 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Is there a relatively easy way to find out what kind of shape the clutch is in when looking at pre-owned C2's? I want to buy a 2002 coupe from a non-porsche dealer and fear buying a car with a worn out clutch and not knowing it. Thanks so much!

POST 2Original post

I do the 4th gear test. Let the car roll slowly at around 1500 RPM's in 1st gear, then shift to 4th. If the clutch is on its way out you will feel it slip and not engage. A healthy clutch will grab on immediately. The car may feel like it is going to stall just give it gas and keep rolling with it. The trick is not to have your RPM's do this a couple of times.

POST 3Original post

Redline shift from 2nd to 3rd. If it's slipping, you will know immediately.
