Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

6 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hey there, I just bought my 02 Targa, yeah I was the same lame guy that didn't know what an RMS was. Sorry my last car was a 350Z you just put in teh gas and it goes, but I can say that my 996 is the most unbelievable car I have ever driven, I mean rain doesn't even affect the handling. It's great. but I have a few questions wanted to see if they are normal, I got the smoke on startup question handled, but , the front end seems to catch alot of eneven pavement, and jerks the steering wheel alitte. could this be I'm just not used to a car with a light front end? Another thing, and no I'm not being cheep but my car seems to get horrible gas mileage. is this with most all 996's. Again go easy on the new kid here, the only porsche I've owned is a couple 928's and those are not at all like this one. Dr Jeremy B

POST 2Original post

Crappy gas mileage just comes with the joy of 320 flat6 hp! I have to fill up after about 200-250miles a tank. Getting in the 13-15 range but then again I love to hear it sing

POST 3Original post

Maybe your tires are tramlining. You'll notice road imperfections (especially longitudinal grooves and ruts) more with low profile performance tires combined with the sporty P-car suspension. Is your ride shod with moderately to heavily worn 18" summer performance tires? Don't know if the light front end has anything to do with it. Without the mass of an engine in front there will be less inertia when turning, but I wouldn't describe that feeling as "jerky". See this article: http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tirete....jsp?techid=47 Remember, there are no stupid questions here, only stupid people who ask questions... ...just kidding

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

POST 5Original post

I get 21 to 22 MPG in my '04 996. I guess I am not driving it hard enough.

POST 6Original post

I've averaged 19.3-19.4 mpg across the last 3k miles.
