Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

15 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Currently I've got the E46 M3 with 40k miles loaded. I'm on the verge of buying a silver/black (subtle color) 99 996 with PSS9s and full Fabspeed exhaust. It's an even deal but I'm so torn. Maybe I'm just venting with no real issue but one of the 'considerations' is how do clients/employees react to the car. Since I'd like to use it as my daily driver so everyone will see it. As a physician practice consultant, I'm not sure if it will 'complicate' deals, brew jealousy, etc. Does anyone else have this experience?

It's just priorities...anyone with a decent job CAN own one (It's the boats and home on the water that really $iss them off)

POST 6Original post

is'nt that Dr.90210 drive a 996? when i see my 996 compadre. I say "what a mgnificent car, the man has taste" and pat myself. unless it came with hugh wing that was added on and the driver was trying too hard to impress.

I drive a 525i,a 996 will but several people over the edge.

POST 9Original post

I drive mine to work, and I have two of them! People who know me, though, just label me as a car fanatic. Labeling me helps them get over any jealousy, and label also happens to be true. I have a friend, a family practicioner, whose kids are all done with college and are independently professional, all on his dollar. He finally treated himself to a used Boxster. But he won't drive the darn thing! He has always longed for a Porsche, and he certainly deserves it, but he won't drive it! He say's he's embarassed to drive such an expensive car. I've been working on him for a while now, but the car still spends a lot of time in the garage. Go figure.

POST 10Original post

I am a physician and don't drive mine to work either. I have only had it a couple of weeks, but people seem to respond pretty dramatically to it. But be clear, I think about driving it to work EVERYDAY and make excuses for car runs in the evenings. I however, would not be put off by a rep coming to me at work in a porsche, but that's easy for me to say because I have one. One of my colleages comes to work regularly in his M3... I haven't mentioned my 911.

POST 11 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

For the most part my clients do see my car except if they have a retail space or we meet for golf/lunch/dinner. We own our buidling and land and my car is parked right out in front of the door for every employee to see, although they know I'm a car nut. One time I ran into a former client at the neighborhood post office and he said, "Business must be good if your driving that (M3)!". I ignored it and asked how his family was. Maybe I'm too self conscious about it.

POST 12Original post

It can be a tough call. If you're a car nut and it fits your personaltiy, it seems like less of a big deal. You also have to consider who your clients are and image of your business. Ordinarily I'd say who cares what they think, but your job may be exactly that. Good luck and most of all.. enjoy the car.

POST 14Original post

I am constantly amazed at how a 911 triggers a reaction with people -- negative and positive. I live in Atlanta but really all my clients are in Boston and NYC. If I lived in Boston or NYC, I would not use my p-car for work. It sends an unhelpful signal to all but other enthusiasts. I would imagine that in your practice it is important to stroke the egos of the docs. Assuming this is true, you would gain advantage by driving something a notch lower than what they are likely to drive. Same goes for the boss. My advice...get the 911 cuz you know you want it. But, pick up something more low key and functional (i.e., mid-range SUV, sedan) for client days. Just my $0.02. -- M

POST 15Original post

Drive the car man! My partners, i.e. my employers, all think I'm nuts. They give me a hard time about my car addiction but I'm a DINK and they all know what I get paid. My fellow employees don't give a rat's hind end either. My clients love going for rides to lunch and such. Again, they know that they are getting a good deal from me and also know that I'm not getting rich off of them. If they are getting good value for their money, they really shouldn't give a rip. Of course, that's just my .02.
