Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I think not... I gave my 996 a little TLC and changed oil, oil filter, cabin filter and air filter and is it just me or does it look like service was wayyyy overdue? The "honest" salesman promised that the car would be newly serviced upon delivery.... what a joke... When I removed the oilplug the oil was black as sin... anyway it's not that hard to guess the old filters from the new ones....

POST 2Original post

i see the oil spill, comes out fast eh? ask me how i know... but yeah definitly looks dirty as sin

POST 3Original post

Salesman: Wow! What did you do to the car after I serviced and sold the car to you? Then he runs away into the dark night.

POST 4Original post

Wow!!! Looks like the original cabin air filter or the air quality is really bad

POST 5Original post

That vehicle was not serviced 6 months ago based on those pictures!!! I think he might have been mistaken...

POST 6Original post

If you didn't get any service department paperwork the service didn't happen. Sincerely, Macster.

It was sold by a WV/Audi Center and I got a nice stamp in my service book...

Well, based on my experience with VW service here in the states I'd not let VW service my lawnmowers. As for the stamp in teh book... I know from my reading UK published Porsche car mags that service stamps are not always reliable indicators the servicing actually took place. Since so much weight is attributed to a fully stamped service book these have been spoofed. Based on the pics I saw I find it hard to believe the car was serviced. Now, having said that, it depends upon how the car is driven and under what conditions. As for the oil's color... I do not know about what is done where you are but some dealers here in the USA will put in an oil additive (Swepco 502) which is very dark. It contains 200ppm moly. This will turn the oil dark(er), it loses much of its light caramel color with this added. Regardless, though, you'll never know if the car was fully serviced or not. Not much you can do about it now if it was not unless someone at the dealer/service department confesses. Sincerely, Macster.

POST 10Original post

When I got mine in March, I disregarded much of what was in the service record file and proceeded to do a 30k service plus the serp belt on it over a few weeks time. I found a lot of what you did and did not feel all of it was performed as it should have been. Now I have a good baseline to start from.

POST 11Original post

they spent more time and money stamping the service book than they spent on the car. they truely suck.

POST 12Original post

Looks like those filters did their jobs (several times over).

I would go stamp his $%^ and ask for a voucher for some compensation. That is ridiculous. It is places like that, which give service centers a bad rap!!! Sorry man.You might want to go go through all the fluids now.

POST 15Original post

I would return the parts at night while no one is looking....including the oil...keep the container though, its nice

POST 16Original post

Looks like the recent Iceland volcanic ashes could've affected it....yeah right. Glad at least you were diligent and proactive on carrying out your own maintenance. Could've been worse if you "assumed" everything to be true and took it to the tracks.
