POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

hello everyone, i have had my '03 996 c4s for three months now and have made some driving observations. i was wondering if anyone has had a similar experience. - wildly modified civic wanting to drag race - mustang gt on the highway wanting to go - harley bike rider with thumbs up - people just looking and more. the car drives great, and other enthusiasts notice the marque. so happy

POST 2Original post

Some of those civics get to 60 in a hurry, but run out of steam at about 120. LOL! That does remind me. I was driving home from the airport last Friday night at about 11. I was on a new section of toll way that just opened up through a sparsely populated area. One of those rice rocket clubs was out and I came up on them spread across the highway (5 of them across three lanes) going about 40. I fell in behind them in the center lane and on some signal the two middle cars took off buzzing like mad hornets. I was in 4th and hit the gas. I passed them before they hit 90. LOL! The worst part was they buzzed around me like bumble bees for the next 20 minutes trying to get me to race the guy in the 370 ZX. I guess he was their leader.

POST 3Original post

the day I drove my car home, 2 different Neon SRTs tried to race me. Lol. The car does drive great. The OEM sports suspension has a very nice ride, and just wait till you take it to the track!!!

POST 4Original post

more guys look at your car than girls....and it doenst bother us some people think they all cost $100k (even my little buggy) the gaps are fun to sprint thru the cars on the clover leaf turns WAY UP THERE... are not going to be out of your way by the time you get around to the exit....yea, WAY up there! co-workers like to talk to you about "racing" or times they drove fast once. someone will always ask "what type of milage do you get" and we all know the answer..."well its still pretty high but I am trying to get it under 10 mpg, its tough though, I probably need more instructor inputs to achieve that kinda milage, cant wait!!" no matter how far away from the other cars you park it, some yokle in a smash up derby pickup will park right next to you... and crowd your space we think a $100 oil change is a bargin, must have done it at home and say "way to go" hot oil comes out of big drain holes FAST Damn, why dont I have an LSD !!! and not one of us thinks pumpkins are round... they are rectangle lighter is better....always and lastly... Rennlist is awesome!

POST 5Original post

In my first month of ownership I had an M3 try to take me on the on ramp, a chick in a Z4 try to race me on the expressway, a new Camaro who caught up with me at the light with his g/f in the passenger seat but was too scared to try and race and be embarrassed when things went green, and the best one - a chick in a Prius trying to race me in traffic on the freeway ! Sure - it's a lot more fun than driving a boring car. I've just got to remember to keep my V1 on at all times ....

POST 6Original post

Taking corners faster than everyone else. That's enough for me......

POST 7Original post

I had several teenage boys give me a thumbs up the other day. (I also had someone make a snide remark at a gas station...)

POST 8Original post

I find it hard to pick my nose in the Porsche. Someone's always looking at me.

POST 10Original post

Oddly, I've gotten a single thumbs-up, from recent gas station attendant, but that's it. He wasn't that cute. Other than that, no; I find old men in Avalons get pissed when I'm doing the speed limit in front of them. But here's a story I love to tell, having nothing to do with my car. Driving with a friend in his MDX, stopped at a light when we were approached by a gorgeous red 997 Turbo. We had been returning from bringing my car to the shop, and so said friend had no choice but to rev up his engine and take the Turbo off of the line. Said friend is a pure minivan kind of fellow, drives the legal limit or below, enjoys making fun of red Turbos. Not more than 3 seconds later the Turbo screeches past us at some ridiculous speed, jumping in front and taking off. Said friend and I peed in pants. Doesn't take much to get some folks all wired up, does it?

POST 11Original post

I live a northern Ca community in the mountains. I often drive to the nearest city in the central Valley (Redding, Ca.) On 2 occasions while on the curvy mountainous road coming home I have been challenged. Once by a Mitsubishi Evo and once by a normal sedan. The Evo stayed with me until I really got on it. He was persistent and definitely was riding my tail. I played with the other car.

POST 12 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

great replys. so i am not alone. i guess it funny that i dont need to show anyone how fast my car goes. i do that when no one is looking!

POST 13Original post

I just wait until it gets dark. LOL

POST 14Original post

I'm filling up the car last year and a guy walks past - stops, looks at my car as he gets past and then I guess he looked down at the script on the back and say, 'WOW, the new Camaro's look great'! My reply, "Read it again - slowly'. He looks down at it and still doesn't get it and walks away. The chick on the other pump laughs as he walked away. That must have hurt as I'm sure he heard her. As far as other cars. I find most move over for me on the highway. Everyone expects me to open it up after they do. It's like, I guess I have too - just to uphold the honor of Porsche. 'Even when I don't feel like going fast officer - they made me'. Yet I can be going some stupid speed in the econobox on my commute - coming up to traffic in the left lane doing warp 5 and without fail some **** in the right or middle lane will LOOK in his mirror at me and then moves in front of me doing one over the limit and I have to slam the brakes on - without fail. Yet I can come up behind people slowly in the P car and as soon as you get *near* them they move over. Must be a PhD dissertation on this somewhere...

POST 15Original post

I wish people were that considerate in my area, but no, slow drivers cut off everyone at every opportunity and never look in their mirrors. I'd put a giant "SLOWER TRAFFIC MOVE RIGHT - ITS THE LAW" banner written backwards on my windshield, but I don't think these people ever actually look in their mirrors. If they do, they certainly don't seem to care. Observation: The only cars that ever see to want to race are jacked-up pickup trucks. I have no idea why. At least they move , which I like.

POST 16Original post

Don't forget.... Everyone asks, "Is it a turbo?" and "How much did that cost you?" Also, I notice that everyone (tries) to pass you on the road no matter how fast you are going.

POST 17Original post

yea, even jacked up pickups while on the cell phone in the rain... if they only once tried to stop in an emergency cituation they would gain a whole new appreciation for how crappy their cars handle Lastly since I'm on my box....we need WAY TOUGHER drivers license tests.. this mamsy pansy drive around the parking lots and residential streets for 10 minutes and park your POS ...you pass, now you can drive 70mph and we trust you know how to manage traffic is crap!! - how about a test that makes them think and act at speed, maybe a couple of emergency proceedure stops and accident avoidences....you cant get a pilot license without practicing emergency proceedures??? stupid ok, I'm done

what were we talking about? I have had enough beer - is that what you are saying!!

POST 20Original post

Griott's (among others) sell the faux-EU front licence plates, and their "favorite" is one that reads "REVO EVOM." Stick that in your mirror. Wait, this ISN'T a Camaro?! Ah, man, I've been ripped off!

No, no. You got the one with the Hemi, right? Giddyup

POST 22Original post

After some long, spirited driving over the memorial day weekend, I went to work on Tuesday in my Ford Expedition. In a momentary lapse of reason (mind still in Porsche mode), I realized that the Exp doesn't take corners at 35 mph the same way the 996 does. As I squealed through the turn in the vacant streets of downtown Denver at 6 am, I felt as though I was going to roll the truck. Whoops! Note to self, Exp is not pCar.

Do a track weekend and you'll really find it's soul

POST 24Original post

my "who cares car" is a Suburban... and YES I find myself pushing the limits but with more DE's under my belt I also find I am able to drive a better line and actually drive it thru those corners...its nuts, (this is only when the wife is NOT in the car) but still its smoother when done at lower speed with her so I can push a little more funny story, coming home from dinner one night a few weeks ago, raining and cold...no traffic, hit the onramp and delibrately got on the gas WAY early to see when the Burb gave me feedback as to when it cut loose... I was at about 45 degrees to the road and just rolled out of the corner... not one person in the car even noticed....silly.. there is no feedback in that pig!

POST 25Original post

Well I hit my one year anniversary with my car and I got tons of little similar stories. The thing I notice most is if I'm first at a light, and I take off at normal speed, the guy behind me is always very close thinking that I would launch hard every time. So I'm forced to give it harder and make my shifts faster.

POST 26Original post

boy no kidding... when I shift out of first I nearly get rear ended....it's not an automatic AND I am not punching it off the line!!

POST 27Original post

Quotes source post: 8627349

EXACTLY! When I shift into 2nd, I see them get mad like I'm doing something wrong. Just cause I drive a Porsche doesn't mean I need to fly... or does it? lol

POST 29Original post

The receptionist chick behind the counter of the hotel I stayed at when I picked up the car came out as I was loading in the luggage and asked if she could take pictures... A dude on the freeway snapped cell phone pics as I went by him on the ride home... Yep, attention getter. The GT2 front bumper adds a whole lot of gee whiz factor as well. DC4

POST 30Original post

I would bet the issue here is most folks don't drive (and have never driven) a manual transmission, and simply don't understand that from a stand-still, these cars don't launch themselves, and actually require a shift from neutral to first to second. Once that happens I find traffic tends to be in my rear-view mirror (at the speed limit), as long as they haven't flown by me prior to that!

POST 31Original post

My favorite is when I am stopped at a light on a steep uphill incline and the person behind me stops right on my rear bumper.

POST 32Original post

a better exhaust will eliminate the "roll back" on hills seriously

POST 33Original post

Observations: 1. When I pass a group of cars on the freeway, inevitably two or three knuckleheads get fired up and start to race. Since I won't bite they wind up racing each other. 2. In heavy traffic, someone rides tight on my *** and I want to ask them, "Do you KNOW how fast this thing can stop?"

POST 34Original post

Quotes source post: 8631331

This is a problem for me too. I just KNOW I'll be rear-ended some day

POST 35Original post

just remember when getting the car fixed after the rear-ender... "No, I swear I hear some noise that wasnt there before, better pull the transmission out and have a look, maybe replace that bearing in there. Could have been damaged by YOUR client - in fact I am sure it was his fault"

POST 37 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

ivangene, as far as drivers licence - i understand that people need to drive and may not have skill/care to learn how to drive well. i suggest a tiered licence (and vehicle for that matter) approach. for general driving you get a general licence. oh yes, with the general licence goes lane restrictions. advanced licence requires advanced skills. and it gets unrestricted lane usage. not so easy of course but you get the idea. my take on acceleration/deceleration - 320hp accelerating/1000hp decelerating. these cars are great.
