Hey guys and gals . I have been thinking about adding a ducktail spoiler to my 99 C4 . I have looked at various aftermarket suppliers like Getty and others along with vendors on ebay . It seems like most do not incorporate a rear brake light . And most of the pics online seem to indicate that the ducktail eliminates or reduces visibility to the center brake light under the rear window . So the question is do most ducks block the view of the brake light ? Or is the center brake light visible to most vehicles ? Do any have a center brake light in them ?

They cover the 3rd brake light and RPM Technik no longer offers them with a 3rd light. I believe Getty does still.
That looks amazing. Can you please let me know who made it? Thanks.

Mine is a RPM Technik CSR Evo. Unfortunately they dont ship to the US anymore and theyre around $3k with the current conversion I think.
I wouldn’t let this be a deal breaker for you, if you’re on the fence. The fact of the matter is that our cars are lower than 99+% of the other vehicles on the road, and the third light is visible to a taller trailing vehicle.
There seems to be a bunch of full deck lid replacement Duck Tails with or without rear brake lights out on the market now. Not to mention duct tail inserts which don't seem to be high enough to block the 3rd tail light. Probably makes sense to accumulate a list of whats available, pictures, feedback, etc. No doubt in my mind that there will end up being more choices going forward after Seinfels $1.2 million purchase of the factory 996 this year and the awareness of how good it looks on the 996. Who knows, maybe RPM will ship again to the US with a tail light version.
A related question, does anyone offer a ducktail spoiler for the .2 C4S that preserves the heckblende reflector?

Sorry to disappoint, but I think theyve moved onto bigger and better things. They seem to have taken over as the UKs busiest Manthey dealer/distributor, and these days they are more interested in bolting $60k worth of aero, suspension and wheels onto 992 GT3s, GT3RSs and 718 GT4s and GT4 RSs, than dealing with the UKs busy carbon fibre manufacturers, to make parts for 20 year old cars. I did contact their carbon fibre manufacturer a couple of years ago, as I wanted to have some carbon parts manufactured. I found them to be incredibly rude, arrogant, curt and generally dismissive. The problem is once some of these companies start supplying F1 teams, they can get incredibly complacent about ALL their other customers, because F1 teams require fast turnaround times and very high quality, usually limited quantities, but they pay, and frequently money is no object ... The CSR program was a good halo project, which no doubt gained them some welcome publicity, but they didnt produce a huge amount of full on CSR converted cars, maybe 40 maximum in total. And though they were an excellent product, they werent cheap. Heres another indicator as to how theyve moved on : https://911uk.com/viewtopic.php?t=153845 And a read through this thread would tend to indicate theyve were largely unresponsive (initially) to this customers requests for information on a coilover kit hed purchased off them : https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/...10497#49188729 Ive no wish whatsoever to rain on your parade, but the notion that a one off 996 built by Porsche and bought for a huge (FWIW I considered it to be obscene) amount of money (albeit I understand it went to charity) by a very wealthy individual, will have little or no effect on 996 prices, desirability or ignite the demand for similar aftermarket parts/accessories as those fitted to that car. The simple fact of the matter is, the 996 was produced in too large a numbers for it ever to be considered collectible or a classic. As an owner, I agree they are great cars and wonderful to drive, but theyre never going to be viewed as sufficiently special to warrant Singer/Guntherwerks level restoration/restomod conversions. sorry if that has burst your bubble

Got no clue what path you are on here. The guy is looking for a ducktail with a third light.
Quotes source post: 19005161
That's part of the reason I asked . I was thinking just based on pics that most trucks/SUV's/mini vans etc sit high enough to still see the 3rd brake light . Other sports cars and similar lower vehicles will not .
TCN your ducktail looks great . In my opinion that's how a 996 rear view should look . Well done . 👍

So you're saying it's like the 964?
Here are the available ducktails I know about. Probably many more that guys hopefully will post. Porsche built 175,000 996s over the six years it was manufactured. Whilst they produced just 65,000 964s over the same period. That makes the 964 model the rarest of all the aircooled cars built, so to answer your question no, not at all like the 964

It’s really very simple, you suggested that RPMT may once again start producing ducktails with the facility to fit a 3rd brake light, this because you appeared to be suggesting that the sale of a one off car Porsche built and sold to Jerry Seinfeld for $1.2M would stimulate the demand for their ducktails. I merely explained that that was unlikely on two counts : Firstly the notion that a plethora of 996 owners will feel the urge to rush out and buy what was a $3,000 part to fit on the back of their cars was somewhat unlikely. And secondly, because the first 996 CSR was built 7-8 years ago, and RPM's business has evolved during that period and their focus is now less on doing CSR conversions to 20 year old 996’s, and concentrates more on Porsche’s newer GT cars. Furthermore, the tooling used to produce the ducktails with a 3rd brakelight, is no longer serviceable, and when I spoke to RPM this time last year, I was told they had no plans to invest in new tooling to enable their supplier to recommence production. Likewise, they've also ceased production of carbon 996 bonnets they previously supplied. I hope that has clarified the situation for you.

That's hilarious but completely unsurprising. You should let LN know about all the 996 excitement lately, maybe it will motivate them to build the oil cooler you've been waiting a couple years for. For the OP - says they have FG ($1.9K) and Carbon options ($3.9K). https://www.vertexauto.com/porsche-996-classic-ducktail-style-rear-spoiler-with-brake-light-painted-p-479421.aspx

You should be working on that Chevy of yours. Let us worry about the other stuff.
Guys please stay on topic . For those that have posted links to vendors thank you . I found some of those on my own but not all . Very helpful . Thanks

Funny you mention that, I noticed the other day but figured Id align it correctly when I get my new UM tag this year. Thank you very much and the aesthetic is pretty subtle. Most people dont notice at first and always get a double take as they realize theyve never seen one. Even non 996 guys admire while at events, think youll love it and we welcome you to the Duck Side. I think hes referring to RPM Technik selling CSR parts in general. It took over a year to get mine pretty long process.
Quotes source post: 19005358
The only one Ive seen was from RPMTechnik, but as your can see theyre not selling to the US anymore. And it was close to $5k unpainted.
^^^ That is one sexy car ! Great stance , beautiful Fuchs and a great looking ducktail . To my eye all proportions look perfect . My C4 is also black so that pic is a motivation that the vision I have for my car is valid . Thanks for posting that .
Quotes source post: 19005161
This ^ The majority of the vehicles on the road will be able to see the brake light with the ducktail. Also, does that third brake light make any difference? I have a visible brake light and was almost rear ended last week a Mach E abomination.
Quotes source post: 19007076
I think the only time Id like a visible 3rd brake light is at the top of a hill but otherwise it isnt a factor.
Part of the reason I would consider a duck with the 3rd light is insurance driven . The chances may be minimal but would an adjuster make life miserable if you were hit from behind and it came out that the factory brake light was hidden ? Or do we think that would never happen ? I get it that having a 3rd brake light guarantees nothing in regards to someone hitting you . If I rule out needing the 3rd light that opens up the choices available from several vendors.
Would like to hear feedback on this one . Yes I know it is a drop in style vs a full width one piece tail/lid . But to my eye the proportions are better than the Better Bodies similar drop in style . Plus this has the bottom side finished to accept the snorkel and cooling fan . https://www.ebay.com/itm/16623642703...3Avlp_homepage
I think there are still more Model T's still on the road than all Porsches ever built,, They sell for 30X thier original value, if you wait another 80 years who know what a 996 will be worth...

Looks pretty cool. The inlet are about the same size as GT3 openings but it looks so small to me.
Chunk is your car a narrow body ? Any issues with water intrusion from rain or when you wash the car ?
Quotes source post: 19009907
Yes my car is a NB and not really, the openings are wide open on the CSR but Ive never had an issue.
^^^ Another question . With your duck having the rear vents did you notice any decrease in engine temps ? I would think the venturi affect would pull out engine heat quite well . Do you have screens on the inlets ?
Quotes source post: 19009966
Honestly Im in Miami and its surface of the sun hot here so I havent noticed, it doesnt overheat at least. I do have mesh installed.
Quotes source post: 19010072
Haha I lived in Orlando for 18 years so been there done that on the heat and humidity . Do you still have the engine lid fan installed ?
Quotes source post: 19010479
Orlando gets sticky too. Yes the factory fan is installed in the same location.

I decided to make an offer for this duck . My offer was accepted so now will wait for shipping details . I guess I have joined the duck side 😋 .
