I am wondering how the airbag crash sensors work. I have a 2004 911 that I am getting a cage in next week. I have the airbag module tricked with resistors to avoid any airbag lights. This is not seeming to work with the sensors as I can not even get an ohm reading off them. If I disconnect them, I get an airbag light though. So, I am planning to leave them hooked up, just would rather relocate them somewhere else. I just need to know how these little things work, as I would like to avoid them telling the airbag module something is wrong due to how or where I mounted or stuffed them.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I got no responses, but I thought I would share a photo of what they look like inside. I saw on some diagrams and you tube other sensors working by releasing a magnet amd some other way that commected 2 leads. Obviously these ones are electronic and not mechanical. I had thought if I could remove the magnet or whatever caused a short in a crash I could overide them and just shove them somewhere. Guess not
It's an "accelerometer"... In other words, it senses acceleration/deceleration (in the case of a crash). At a certain threshold of deceleration it tells the computer to deploy the airbag it's connected to (I would assume there are several, seeing as there are several airbags). The unit needs to be facing the way of the printed arrow on it. I would assume the ones for the side curtain airbags would face the doors and the ones for the front bags would face forward but that's just a guess - if you want the airbags to function properly and not just keeps the lights out, make sure you research this thoroughly and mount them as needed. Good luck
Is it possible to just pull the bulb from the light in the cluster ? If it were me and the bulb idea didn’t work, I’d cover the light with electrical tape and be done with it.
