I'm in the process of rebuilding my 996 3.4 engine , I bought this engine from a breaker as my original went bang and decided to strip it and refresh it before I put it in the car. Up to now it's looked in decent condition (apart from the vario pads being a bit knackered when they came out) the mains and big end had hardly any wear at all ( engine had 82k when I bought it) Whilst cleaning up my heads I noticed on two of the cam tower bearing surfaces ( bank 4-6 exhaust cam , last two bearings on opposite end to scavenge pump) there's an area on two of the towers that look unpolished and have a slightly larger radius than the polished part of the bearing, it's as though it's been machined back or was missed by the factory tooling on manufacture?? It's not wear as the part of the bearing where the cam touches is still shiny and in perfect condition, the cam doesn't touch this part when it runs in the bearing, Has anyone seen this before ?? Ps I've tried to attach photos but keep getting a plug in error message when I try to attach sorry? Any thoughts much appreciated THANKYOU !!!

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.
