Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

After turning switch to turn on headlamps when pulled out to turn on fogs, it will not stay out, but pops back in. New switch is $160. Guessing some nub has worn down. Anyone else have this problem?

POST 2Original post

If needed, I have a working used one for sale. PM if interested.

POST 3Original post

I had the same problem and replaced the switch. When I took the old one out I could hear small pieces rattling inside. I ordered one off Amazon, delivered the next day.

You lucky mainlanders, haha. Same thing happened my headlight switch today. I've gotta wait a week to get one from online!

POST 5Original post

I replaced the one in my 996 several years ago. It may be time for another. Happily, it’s an easy fix.

POST 6Original post

Had the opposite problem happen on my '99 today. Headlights didn't want to turn off. Eventually got them off by gently wiggled the thing. I've only turned the headlights on about three times, so it's probably operator error. To turn them on, is it pull out and rotate two clicks to the right ? Or just rotate to the right? It seems I have to pull and turn. Turning off (again only about three times) pull and turn? Thanks.

POST 7Original post

Unfortunately sounds like a bad switch, not operator error. Should only be turn to the right or left for on and off. After you turn on, pulling activates the fog lights.
