Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I have seen early model 996s (mine is 1999) where the lower headlight lenses were either orange, or clear. Were Clear ones aftermarket only? Where can they be sourced? Can the orange lenses be changed out to clear?

POST 2Original post

Not sure if it was an option or not (mine is a late '99 and has the clears)...but i see FVD has them available.

Thanks, 9 lives. Message sent to their sales dept

POST 4Original post

Litronics option is all clear. Otherwise I am not sure how it optioned for non litronic versions. I do know that I swap the orange ones out for clear headlight assemblies for every 996 or 986 I have owned. In fact, I even have an extra set. Even with the clears they have an inner amber lens that I take out and put in a silverized amber bulb. This is called an "amberectomy" and there was a thread years ago on how to do this by our dear friend Ed (Ivan something was is RL name) on how to do it. You can see I have no orange or amber inside my headlights. In addition, you will also note in the second piture I removed the headlight washers for a cleaner look (I have the washers somewhere and will sell them at some point) but it also was necessary when I put in the turbo heat exchangers for the larger engines. I love the look without the litronic washers which are completely useless from my perspective.

I found it the amberectomy thread.... https://rennlist.com/forums/996-foru...rectomy-2.html

POST 6Original post

I've wanted to do this for 10 years but I've been fraidy-scared. Btw., I read that Ed (Ivangene) passed away last November. He was always very helpful on Rennlist.

POST 7Original post

Really early 99s had orange front and amber rear lenses. These cars have a dual row IMS with a low failure rate. Some prefer early 99s and orange/ambers.

Yes, agreed, better without the washers. Film or clear coated?

XPEL film on headlights....for both UV and track trash.
