Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi all, I just finished up all the paperwork today and will be bringing my baby home on Wednesday. I had been restoring a '67 Bronco but got about $15k into it and didn't see any light at the end of the tunnel. So I bailed on that project and decided to get a sports car. I was looking at a Lotus or a Z06, but then by chance I saw a Cayman go by one day and had to have a Porsche. I talked to a bunch of Porsche guys and they all told me to get the Cayman, I drove a couple and I got to say they are amazing. Then I got a chance to take a 996 for a spin and I was sold. The one I got is a '04 C2 with a load of options in Atlas Grey (I believe). Not my first choice of colors but I took resale into account and it is still a strikingly beautiful car. I don't want to drone on, but I will say that I spun the car out on the testdrive and that was the big selling point. If it's not dangerous it's not fun. Looking forward to the new experience. Chest

Or you can think: if it is not dangerous, it IS a lot of fun It could be dangerous to others too, besides yourself. Welcome to the forum.

POST 3Original post

Welcome. Find your nearest PCA and attend some DE events. They are a blast, and most importantly, it will teach you the capabilities that this car possess.

Glad to see the reference didn't go unnoticed, I'm still trying to find Roller Girl though I would love to have a Lotus, but I'm 6'1" 240lbs. The one time I tried to get in one I got stuck on the way in and had to have my wife pull me out Really I am a car guy, so any car is a joy to drive in one way or another. The wife and I finally decided we're not going to have any kids so I get to have cars instead. She wants one too, but has considerably more expensive taste. For her next car she wants a Maserati GT or an Aston. I see it as a win either way, untill I have to pay for it. Now for the big question, what is the first mod I need to make on this thing? Exhaust was going to be my first choice unless there are any "problems" I need to take care of first. Thoughts? Chest Oh, and thanks for the warm welcome

POST 13Original post

Hey Chest! Welcome aboard! I had a similar experience with the Lotus. I'm about the same size and the only way I could get into the car was by sitting on the ground inside the open door, throwing my legs into the car first and then doing essentially a pull-up to hoist myself into the seat... Not an elegant way to enter or exit a vehicle... You'll love the 996 and the company that you'll keep on this forum. Now... pics??? Rudy

Congratulations and welcome to RL. There are quite a few of us Marylanders out there so hope to see you at a get together, Track day or Autocross. The latter 2 are the best places to really experience and learn what your car has to offer. As for exhausts, I recommend the Fabspeeds, they sound fantastic and don't drone at lower speeds. Install is pretty easy and you can do them in your garage although a lift makes things much easier. Post pics of your new toy.
