Guys I have just purchased a replacement chain tensioner for my 99 C4 and it looks to have a 14mm hex in the middle rather than the 32mm hex, is this just the new style replacement part? It doesn't have the spring assist and the new part number is: 996 105 188 02 The tensioner is the one under the AC pump.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

The part is reported to fit cars down to the 2000 996. Info obtained from this site: http://store.paramountauto.com/oe-po...FReUfgodSJMMUg I can't vouch for the site's accuracy.
The updated, superseded tensioner has a 14mm internal hex, Vs the 32mm external hex on the OE units.
Thanks F6 I have the correct one by the sounds of it
