Around town my '99 C2 usually runs around 200F coolant temp with 120-130F air intake temp according to the obd2 sensors. When I raise wing/engine cover manually, I can see a 20+ degree drop in intake temps. Is there way I can leave the cover up all the time without hitting the button? It will stay up after I shut off the car and start it again, but it lowers itself a few minutes after starting again.

Is this driving around town or on a highway? I'm surprised the temps would fall that much just around town since it's still covered but just has some additional venting. There's not really much airflow there until highway speeds but I guess you're seeing something different. Interesting...

Extend the wing and pull the fuse. Refer to the fuse diagram inside the fuse cover.
It's around town. That pic was about 60 seconds after raising the lid. I'm surprised too. Great suggestion on the fuse.
That fuse may control 'not only the airofoil' but also something else on the car. ie:- cooling fans or mirrors, etc. So be aware.
Is your muffler shielding intact ? My 01 C4 has sport mufflers from the previous owner & the stock shielding is missing which definitely adds heat to the engine compartment during warm weather town driving & most likely induces cracking of the coil packs . FWIW - Hanging out in the garages at the Continental and Rolex series races, after hot laps all the 911's come in and the first thing the crew does it lift the engine lids (not the spoilers). Guess there is something to it to help dissipate the engine heat, and it makes perfect sense. I've done the same at home in the garage to help cooling time if there is something I need to work on in the engine bay.

No, it won't. Fuse D8 is for the spoiler. On newer 996 cars with power trunk release, the fuse is shared with the spoiler. Since the 1999 996 has manual releases, fuse D8 is specific to the spoiler. Google before tossing out unsubstantiated opinion... http://lmgtfy.com/?q=1999+Carrera+fuse+diagram

Not true. I'm still awaiting on a new update for the Home Depot Gutter Guard mod.
