Default Screw # 7 M96.20 Crankcase What does it do? What is this screw holding. If the crank is pinned and the cam shaft on this side is locked; I inadvertently loosened this screw. I did not totally remove it as it interferes with the vario-cam solenoid. I put sealer on the outside of the o-ring and torqued it to spec. Is there more that I should do? Thanks, Stan This is the screw #7

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

It screws into the side of the crank shaft cage. You did fine.

Yelcab: Thank you for your reply. What is the purpose of this screw?
@LOevco1001 that is one of the screws that holds the crank carrier into the crankcase. There are several more so removing one (and reinstalling it) is not an issue.
What does it do? It holds the crank cage to that half of the engine case so that you can continue with engine assembly without having to install any head nuts...Once the engine is fully assembled with both heads on, that bolt has no more function.
