Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

4 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Since we have yet another 996 engine in our workshop that has suffered with a cracked liner/cylinder, I got to wondering if anyone has engineered a fix for this (apparently common) problem? Indeed is this a problem worldwide or is the issue limited to the UK/Europe? We are considering making nikasil coated steel wet liners for the repair but there is no point if someone else has already got the t-shirt. What is the general concensus for the issue?

POST 2Original post

Another Rennlister - KY_soldier is suspicious he has this issue but the opc won't tell hime the exact issue - he lives in KY/FL so definitely not just europe

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

We have three engines with bore failure in the last 12 months, in addition to a 2.5 boxster engine with a dropped liner.

POST 4Original post

This appears to be very common. Here's my friends Aussie 996 experience. Check out the responses. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/showt...hreadid=230884 I am also going to post this on the 996 Rennlist board also as I would like to think these 996 engine failures should be preventable. Normal one day, big $$$$ the next. Especially in Australia at $A24,000 each for a remanufactured engine. As for the damaged engines, perhaps Porsche AG are remanufacturing these 996 engines themselves, with parts pricing making it unviable for local rebuild. My friends engine was being sent back to Germany I believe.
