Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi all, After all of this reading on engine failures and busted parts, I just wanted to make sure that my engine is just fine. I hear a few strange noises every once in a while...I'll describe them as best as possible. In the rare event that I stall the car, I hear a lot of chatter when the engine dies out....and when I go to restart, I hear some more metal chatter, not too sure if it's like the loose change in the dryer sound though....is that normal? Also, when I back the car up...every now and then, when I don't give the car enough juice, I hear a weird squeal, fairly loud, kinda like the sound when the power steering fluid is low. Car has no issues when it drives or restarts. I also just had a roller replaced with the CPO, the shop didn't mention anything out of the ordinary, which is good. Anyhow, tell me I'm fine please. Thanks, J

I'll begin by saying my case is a single isolated incident and as such not a statistical predictor of other engines - but when my "loose coins in the washer" engine died this weekend, it did not exhibit even a hint of any abnormal sound 3 days before its death. I suspect the most qualified Porsche mechanic would not have detected even a hint of the upcoming engine destruction. I drove my Carrera across Arizona on Friday - five hours mostly at 75MPH - and it sounded & responded perfectly. Two days later, I drove it back across Arizona on Sunday and upon starting heard slight sounds that made me thing the exhaust system was warming up - for the first time - and six hours later - backing into my garage at 1200 RPM -from sounding ok (from the cabin) as I reversed at 1MPH, to coins in the washer to complete engine meltdown in < 3 seconds. It was that sudden. On the good side, I met an 82 year old hiking down into the Canyon, and his legs were functioning perfectly (2nd picture down): http://www.johnmiranda.com/phantomranch.htm

I hear that same chatter. Bro, there's no point of this thread, man. It's just going to make you more paranoid.
