Do any of you folks who have swapped out your shifters have the plastic shift **** insert for the six-speed shifter (the little L-shaped molded plastic parts with 1-6 and R)? I killed mine in a DIY project gone wrong, the car looks ghetto with no insert in the shifter, and I'm loath to shell out for a new shift boot/**** assembly for a 20-cent piece of molded plastic. I'm referring to the silver piece in the attached image. Thanks in advance...

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. I don't have the part you need...but I'd love to hear more about your project
I was trying to cover the insert in stingray hide. It sounded awesome in my head, but the execution was...disastrous.
The part where I thought, "Hmm, I bet drilling some holes in it would help" was where things went south in a hurry.
Maybe have a capable friend screen the tools for your next project ?
Sorry for the misfortune 5CHN3LL. I think your best luck will be to try LA dismantlers, I have only heard bad thing about the way they do business but you might get lucky and score one for cheap. Ohh I think whale ***** skin will be a better candidate for your mod. LOL
My supplier for unicorn ******* was sold out. The insert was scuffed and didn't take recoating well, so I thought I'd give the stingray a try. Fail.

If I do this, I'll be limited to crayons and roundy-tip scissors.

Not sure you really want to do that....the more shifting you do will expand the scrotul material to a ratio of 100000000000000000000 to 1. I'm surprised your windows didn't blow out.
I think you're confusing unicorn ******* (which increases in size by about 50% when warm and reduces in size by about 50% when cold) with OTHER nearby material, the size of which can vary greatly depending on shift frequency.
5CHN3LL, I have my original shift **** (that I cut the leather boot off to install the Rennline aluminum shift ****). It has a couple of scratches. I am sure that the silver part can be painted and made to look like new. If you want it, it is yours. PM your contact info and I will send it to you.

Sweet - you're the man! PM coming.
Carry on with the lunacy...
Ok, too bad this one's for a 5 speed - would look really classy in a Porsche.
And just in case you missed it - boobies!
This place is so awesome.
Sucks how you have to cut the boot off the **** if you want to change it. Then pay for for a whole new one if you're no good with scissors
5CHN3LL I have a standard 6-speed **** & boot with the small pattern insert I can send you if you can use it.

Hey, this comes up once in a while... Interior guys: Does someone know how this silver piece can be removed?
It comes off pretty easy with a plastic trim tool. Start at the bottom where the leather and the silver meet. There are press in tabs on the silver piece that hold the two pieces together. Work slow and careful and you shouldn't have a problem. The replacement piece will press back into place. Again, just take it slow and careful.
This is a source reference. Confirm exact model applicability in the original material.
